Welcome to my site. Have a look around, and let me know what you think. This page tells you a little bit about my past. If you want, you can skip right to the music clips above, or whatever else piques your interest. If you're looking for The Citizens (as well you should), please just take the leap right here: CitizensMusic.com
I started playing at the age of six on a guitar made by my father Jeff. I took private lessons in Albuquerque, New Mexico with the venerable Lewis Winn at twelve and still meet with him whenever I'm in town. I spent my youth playing the blues in the clubs of Albuquerque, often in my father's band.
I left Albuquerque for Wesleyan University where I majored in music and studied jazz with Anthony Braxton, Jay Hoggard, and Tony Lombardozzi. In 1995 I made my first commercial recording as part of the Braxton's ensemble on Composition 102. I graduated in 1996 with High Honors in Music and the Leavell Prize for outstanding work as a Music major.
In 1997 I moved to New York and became involved in the underground soul scene with some of the city's greatest divas including Danni Gee, Tamar-Kali, Miriam Sullivan, Omo Misha, Imani Uzuri, M'B Singley, Monet, Lisala Beatty, and Soyini Assata, just to name a few. I also have had the opportunity to play with some of the most ferocious players in town, including Trevor Holder and Don Martin (rhythm section for Angela Bofill, Brian Jackson, and the Jungle Brothers), Brian Jackson (of Gil Scott-Heron fame), Num Amun'tehu (from Burning Spear), and Kwame Bradnt-Pierce (Three Bean Stew). In 2002, Mark Lesseraux and I formed The Citizens, an Avant-Rock band, and we'll be coming to a city near you very soon. Come check us out at CitizensMusic.com for more info.
